Denotations
The denotations in the opening scene of 'Saving Private Ryam' is lots of dark colours. The dark colours are shown on the clothing of the soldiers as they are all wearing dark green uniforms with dark coloured weapons like brown. You also see dark colours on the boats as they are grey and also the weather is very dark and gloomy.
Conotations
The use of all these dark colours is very deathly as it conjures up images of pain, suffering, anxiety, the rawness of war and the simplicity of mortality.
